INTERNET | SOCIAL MEDIA | SELL YOURSELF!

We have all come in this digital era where Internet is like a daily meal, just like a basic need. Can you try to imagine a world without Internet? You probably can’t figure it out. I want to repeat something that has been said over and over again- Internet has come with its advantages and disadvantages. The people who use the Internet so much are the youths in colleges and universities, especially when dealing with social media and search engines- of course for doing research. Now, let’s talk about social media. Social media is in fact the quickest way to get interactive with people across the globe e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Flickr among others. You realize that it’s still in the same time and period (youthful & scholar period) that many of us become jobseekers. Connecting job seeking and ones usage of social media is quite more than relevant. Of course many of the places you’ll go searching for a job, they’ll get interested to know how you use social media and suppose you use it negatively. That sounds like dropping a glass of ice on the floor?
People go ahead and post nasty photos, posts and comments for example on Facebook. This can cost you a lot if your employer gets enthusiastic about it. Photos especially profile photos should try to portray the ‘real’ image of you in terms of who you are as well as your profession. On the other hand for the addicts of social media, this could be really dangerous beyond your thoughts. You should really monitor, mind and regulate the time you are on the Internet socializing. Make sure it does not reach the addiction stage that every twenty minutes you have to log in and ‘see’ what is happening. I have a friend who was fired by the boss for apparently ‘Facebooking’ during working hours. The other thing is minding your language when communicating to you seniors say in a work environment. You should as well keep the conversations official and straight to the point. You should never write something like this to your boss; “Niaje boss? Sa Ile promo itakuwaje?” meaning “Hi boss, kindly update me about the promotion.” Make sure you always use social media platforms in a useful manner that’s positive. It simply tells a lot about yourself, remember you are the one who should ‘sell’ yourself. Then sell yourself.

WHOSE IS THE MARRIAGE BILL?

Everyone (especially men) is happy all over the towns and streets simply because the Marriage Bill was approved by the parliament to go to the final stage where the President should put the sign to approve it or decline. As usual, women have so far complained that it’s indeed a very unfair way of living such a life of bringing other wives without their consent. If you are a fan of the parliamentary proceedings, you can try to remember how the MPs were very ‘energetic and enthusiastic’ saying that it’s an African culture a husband not to ask for a woman’s consent in whatever circumstances. I want to apply a simple logic. We all understand who the Members of Parliament are, right? It goes without saying that they are wealthy. In their state, they would be in a better position to have as many wives as they wish- after all, they can take care of them. Now, think of this village man who is so happy about the marriage bill that men are now not required to seek consent of the first wife in case they wish to bring another one. This particular man is even having problems to feed his one wife and two children. Can he even afford or dare to bring another wife? In my own view, this bill is only going to favor the rich- those who can afford to take care of many wives. We have known our leaders for favoring themselves and I would term this as their own favor too in the name of ‘men’ and ‘African culture. Remember, I’m an African too.

THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER LACK IN YOUR HOUSE!

Here is a list of all the things you should never lack in your house whether you are a lady or a gentleman. 1. Mirror- Nature mistakes itself to convince us that only ladies should use mirrors to look at themselves before they leave the house. Unfortunately, this is not true. Everyone needs a mirror to look how presentable they look just before they get out of the house. This improves your confidence. 2. Pen- This people will mistake it saying only learners should have pens. That’s a lie. You need to have a pen and probably walk with it. It’s funny when a person tells you to write something and all you can say is that you don’t have a pen. 3. Razor blade- this is indeed very useful. At time or another, you need to cut out some things like strings of a trouser that is not well made. 4. Nail cutter- a nail cutter will always help you keep your nails short and neat. NEVER use a razor blade because it will do more harm than good. It may end up cutting you. 5. Ear buds- this is yet another useful ‘tool’ in your house. Ear buds will help you clean your ears in a hygiene manner. Quit matchsticks and stuff. 6. Torch- We all know why a torch is important, right? But some will argue that there is electricity but that moment when there is a blackout and your phone is drained? You are in the darkness and you need to check out something? Have a torch!
7. An extra face towel- We are used to having the other towels but it’s always important to have an extra one of a small size just in case you need to use it during an emergency. 8. Emergency kit- We all know that this is not so common in our homes but it’s indeed very fundamental. It should contain some antiseptic, clean pieces of cloth…and such. 9. Comb- We all know why this is important, to simply keep your hair neat. 10. Safety pin- This too is very important as it will assist you when maybe using your pajamas and such. 11. Needle- This is as important as the safety pin as it’s a multipurpose tool. It will help you mend your clothes, and remove things from your body like thorns and jiggers. 12. Something extra- May it be an extra plate (for people living alone), extra toothbrush and such. Always have that ‘extra’ thing.\ I just want to hope that you have at least five of them, have them because they are very useful. In case you would like to add others, just comment below.

IS THIS FAIR?

If you come around Kenyatta University main campus gate at around 4.00 pm waiting for a vehicle to travel towards Thika, and if it’s your first time, you may be so surprised. Maybe you are asking yourself why you should be surprised. Well, here is the answer. You will find school children of K.U primary school travelling to their different destinations along Thika road but should I really call it travelling? Most of them are age 8 to 13. As a tradition, they always pay half the price comparing to adults. They do it yes but they go through a hustle to get a seat. The touts chase them away. The kids will be in groups of like five and they start begging; “aki tubebee mmoje” meaning “just carry one of us”. Ironically, you’ll find touts even telling them; ”kwendeni huko” meaning “go away”. It really pisses people off especially parents. Passengers will feel sympathy and say; “aki toto come nikushike” meaning “let the child in I will hold them”. Sometimes I wonder whether these touts really have kids but the main lesson that these kids learn is the best. They will learn that in life we have different people and also they will know how to do things for their own. They have learnt waking up as early as 4.00 in the morning regardless of how junior they are. At the end of the day they will become big people in the society who have an awesome attitude towards life.

IMAGES: TWO BODA BODA RIDERS BURNED TO ASHES!

Remainders of the bodies

For a long time we have valued boda boda riders for being an alternative means of transport when things go wrong. For example when matatus go on strike or when it’s late in the night. But yesterday it was a totally different story.
Two boda boda riders were burned to ashes as the third escaped on 5th March 2014 at 9.00pm at the Kenyatta University Main Campus gate. The three would pretend to be boda boda riders and when you ride with them they would turn to be hijackers, demand money and even beat you.
Time had come for people and other boda boda riders to get rid of them and unfortunately or fortunately, they had to burn them.  For sure, they were tarnishing the name of others and I am pretty sure others will learn from it.

AIRTEL IS LOSING IT!

Lately, Safaricom and Airtel bought yuMobile. Safaricom bought all the infrastructures and employees whereas Airtel bought the 2.7 million yu customers and actually taking the prefix 075…. In that deal, Safaricom is the one which is going to gain reason being, for buying the infrastructure means it wants to improve its technical platforms.

On the other hand, Airtel seems to be so excited to get the yu customers but trust me, all those customers may eventually shift to Safaricom. I have been with Airtel for two years and their  problem is only one; the quality of their services. The services are just poor. For example, take Zawadi loyalty program, it is from time to time under upgrade of which they upgrade nothing.

If Airtel is not careful, they are going to lose it in this tech industry just like yu. Questions still run in peoples minds why yu had many free offers yet people never liked it; the answer is clear, quality of service delivey, period! I never mind paying costly to  be with Safaricom because the services are up to the stardard of the cost.

MORE THAN ENOUGH!

Many are the times we find ourselves complaining almost over everything. It’s true that human beings never get satisfied with what they have and always aspire for more. Remember something that you had always wished to have at one time; you really craved for it until sometimes you could even dream with it. When you finally got it the first day, I bet you were so enthusiastic about it but let me ask you, what happened after sometime???
I’m sure after sometime you lost interest in it and asked yourself, “Now, is this what I was craving for? So what next?” All that comes as a sign of in-satisfaction. Whenever we get something, we aspire for something better of which is not a crime but the best thing is to appreciate what we already have.
Whenever you complain, always remember that there is someone in a worse situation than you and they aren’t complaining. Again, bear in mind that at most times we have more than what we need and surprisingly, we can perfectly work with what we have. Let us always work with what we have and appreciate it!!!
