INTERNET | SOCIAL MEDIA | SELL YOURSELF!
We have all come in this digital era where Internet is like a daily meal, just like a basic need. Can you try to imagine a world without Internet? You probably can’t figure it out. I want to repeat something that has been said over and over again- Internet has come with its advantages and disadvantages.
The people who use the Internet so much are the youths in colleges and universities, especially when dealing with social media and search engines- of course for doing research. Now, let’s talk about social media.
Social media is in fact the quickest way to get interactive with people across the globe e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Flickr among others. You realize that it’s still in the same time and period (youthful & scholar period) that many of us become jobseekers.
Connecting job seeking and ones usage of social media is quite more than relevant. Of course many of the places you’ll go searching for a job, they’ll get interested to know how you use social media and suppose you use it negatively. That sounds like dropping a glass of ice on the floor?
People go ahead and post nasty photos, posts and comments for example on Facebook. This can cost you a lot if your employer gets enthusiastic about it. Photos especially profile photos should try to portray the ‘real’ image of you in terms of who you are as well as your profession.
On the other hand for the addicts of social media, this could be really dangerous beyond your thoughts. You should really monitor, mind and regulate the time you are on the Internet socializing. Make sure it does not reach the addiction stage that every twenty minutes you have to log in and ‘see’ what is happening. I have a friend who was fired by the boss for apparently ‘Facebooking’ during working hours.
The other thing is minding your language when communicating to you seniors say in a work environment. You should as well keep the conversations official and straight to the point. You should never write something like this to your boss; “Niaje boss? Sa Ile promo itakuwaje?” meaning “Hi boss, kindly update me about the promotion.”
Make sure you always use social media platforms in a useful manner that’s positive. It simply tells a lot about yourself, remember you are the one who should ‘sell’ yourself. Then sell yourself.
